With the release of my book, My Country Tis of Thee, I have been inviting students to engage with the lesson by writing their own lyrics. So far, the MCTT Lyrics Contest has received some wonderful submissions from children and elementary classrooms. Take a look! More will lyrics will be added to this page as I receive them.
Check out these submissions!

Bullying – My Country Verse
Mary Ristau’s second grade class at Moran Prairie Elementary, Spokane.
Schools should be bully-free,
Full of our honesty,
Friends should be kind.
Include us in your game,
Please treat us all the same,
Stop calling us those names,
Friends should be kind.
Madison Elementary 5/6th graders – combined class
Teacher Patty Driscoll, music teacher Dori Nielson
Note: both teachers teamed up for this activity with Patty introducing the book and idea for new verse and the music teacher helping them work on these verses.
My country ‘tis of thee
Let us be bully-free
No teasing found
We are not all the same
Stop causing all their pain
Differences are not to blame
Freedom all around
My country ‘tis of thee
So sad the poverty
Homeless abound
God keep them in your sight
Help us relieve their plight
Shelter them for the night
New hope is found
